Why do people blame satan for the fall of man?

aren't we all responsible for our own actions? why is satan so often the scapegoat for everything that we do wrong in our lives? i think the world owes a big apology the evil one. geez!!! could you imagine if everytime something went wrong, someone blamed you? and not just people you know, but people you've never even met. i kinda feel sorry for satan. am i alone on this?
