Military EOD technician?

I'm a sopre in high school, and I have been dreaming of becoming an EOD tech (no, not because of the hurt locker). But I am not completely sure of the requirements that are needed to becoming an EOD. And, do they even do very much now that the Iraqi police are handling all of the IEDs and such?
